Special Events in June 2012

The Annual Oakland Library Summer Reading Program begins Saturday, June 16th, 2012!!! Kids read 8 hours during the summer, and receive a free book and other prizes. Parents or older children may read to children who aren't reading yet. Raffle prizes at every branch! Sign-up in person or online at http://www.oaklandlibrary.org

Tuesday, June 19th, 7:00 pm: Unique Derique celebrates Juneteenth and the start of our Summer Reading Events. All ages invited to his performance of hambone, body drumming, and circus comedy.

Saturday, June 23rd, 2:00 pm: Lawrence Hall of Science - Festival of Science. All ages welcome to explore a sampling of scientific experiments.

Tuesday, June 26th, 7:00 pm: Jean Paul Valjean - Magician extraordinaire entertains all ages with wondrous tricks and amazing feats!

Thursday, June 28th, 11:00 am: The Bubble Lady returns! All ages are welcome to this joyous demonstration of the incredible properties of bubbles.

Last but not least: Kids ages 11 to 17 are invited to VOLUNTEER at Rockridge Branch Library this summer. Please call Erica at 510-597-5017 for details.

 

Special Events in May 2012

Craft Program: Origami for Mother's Day projects: Make a Mother's Day Card with origami decoration, and other assorted origami. Drop by, with or without your own mother! Tuesday, May 5th, 7:00 - 8:00 pm, and/or Thursday, May 10th, 3:30 - 5:30 pm. All ages welcome, kids under 8 please come with an adult.

Historical Fiction Book Club for ages 7 to 9: May 5th and May 19th, 2012 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM. Book discussion, followed by a craft - Collage! Books to be read and discussed include Ox-Cart Man, Mary and Her Little Lamb, and Gold Cadillac, among other choices. Historical snacks will be served. All writers welcome!

Bring 15 copies of up to 5 pgs. (double-spaced, manuscript margins) of any prose for on-site reading/discussion. (You're also welcome to come empty-handed).
